Denim dreams come true in natural dyes + non-toxic stone washes
The pathway to sustainable denim
we were told non-toxic denim was impossible. Most washing houses use toxic chemicals to create stonewash effects without the stones. Mining natural pumice stones is tough on the planet and the stones crumble quickly to dust, mixing with chemical dyes to create a toxic sludge.
Una Pluma tends to unite dreamers and schemers dedicated to making the world a better place.
We connnected with Turkey-based Hand Made Stone—a company crafting sustainable washing stones from upcycled pumice dust—and a washing house in Kathmandu open to non-toxic experimentation (a rarity in Nepal).
